Ladan is a social scientist specialising in the application of advanced quantitative research methods in the context of violence. With a background in social science and epidemiology, her research focuses on Intimate Partner Violence and Violence against Children. Ladan's particular interest lies in enhancing the measurement of interpersonal violence and understanding its ramifications on health and society. As a senior researcher, she has worked in three countries: Iran, New Zealand, and the UK.
In Iran, Ladan’s research focused on family structure and dynamics, including conflict and divorce, and their impact on the wellbeing of women and children.
After relocating to New Zealand in late 2016, Ladan joined the University of Auckland. Her work concentrated on adverse childhood experiences and their impacts on physical, mental, and educational outcomes. She also explored gender patterns in interpersonal violence, intergenerational impacts of violence exposure, population trends in intimate partner violence, resilience in adversity, violence, and trauma, and gender differences in the use of physical violence against abusive partners.
Ladan joined the Violence and Society Centre at City, University of London in February 2022. Her current research focuses on improving violence measurement in gender-hostile settings such as Iran and the Middle East, as well as among marginalised sub-populations in the UK.
