Karen is the CEO and Lived Experienced (LE) Lead of VOICES, a BATH based, ‘by and for’ Domestic Abuse (DA) Charity. VOICES supports clients to overcome DA, recover well and thrive. Karen and the LE group have worked with researchers and professionals for the past 10 years. They strive to influence positive change while challenging systemic flaws to prevent victims/survivors from secondary abuse. They have been advocating for survivor voice across the legal and social platforms, involved in changing the DA laws in conjunction with Safelives, orchestrating the development of the Local Family Justice Board and co-authors of the ‘Court Guide’ and various publications in the British Medical Journal.
Claire is a qualitative applied health researcher with a focus on families living in adversity and the services they might access. Her work has involved mothers in prison, mothers with perinatal mental health problems, and adult survivors of child maltreatment and domestic abuse, as well as health and social care professionals She is interested in how health policy and practice can be improved to reach more families and avoid causing harm, particularly for survivors of violence and abuse.
