Domestic Abuse, Mental Health and Justice

Summary
​

This study will explore: 

1) How people who have experienced domestic abuse feel about their interactions with the justice system (such as police, courts, and legal services). 
2) What support is available to them during and after legal proceedings, and where are the gaps in support.
3) What factors influence their decision to involve (or not involve) the justice system.
4) How do these experiences affect their mental health and recovery.

You are eligible to take part if: 

1) You have experienced domestic abuse
2) Are aged 16 or older
3) Have either:  (i) interacted with the justice system in relation to domestic abuse , or (ii) considered engaging with the justice system but did not proceed. 
4) Are proficient in English
5) Reside in England, Wales, or Scotland.

Please only take part if you are physically and emotionally safe to do so. 

 
How do I take part?

There are three ways to take part - and if you would like to take part in more than one type of activity, you can do.

1) Complete our anonymous online survey.  The survey should take no more than 20 minutes to complete. For more information, or to take part in the survey, click here. To see a copy of the questions you will be asked, click here. 

Please be aware that some information (such as the web address or the fact that you visited the survey page) might be stored in your browser history. If you are unsure how to do this, you can ask the research team for guidance or request an alternative way to complete the survey). 

2) Register your interest to take part in an online focus group. For more information, click here.

3) Register your interest to take part in an in-person creative workshop. 
      Workshops are being held in London, Peterborough, Birmingham and Newport. For more information, click here.
